Swansea RFC is delighted to announce the appointment of former All White, Ben Lewis, as the club’s new Head of Rugby Operations.
He will oversee the strategic and operational side of rugby at the club, supporting strategic objectives on and off the fieldand providing a link between the board and the rugby management team.
His appointment marks the latest move by the club to prepare itself for a return to a revamped St Helen’s next season and build on what has been a positive campaign for a young coaching and playing team.
Lewis played 64 times for the club between 2004-11, before spending a decade as part of the coaching team, with a deep family connection to St Helen’s that saw both his father and brother also wear the famous white jersey.
Dad Roy represented the club between 1971 and 1985, while brother Sam played across four consecutive seasons from 2009/10.
Speaking about his appointment, Ben said:
“I’m honoured and proud to be given this opportunity at what is an exciting time for the club. Swansea RFC has been a big part of my family over the years. Since Keith Colclough approached me with a view to joining the board we’ve spoken at length about the plans that the club have for next season and beyond.
“Joe Thomas is an exciting and ambitious young coach, someone I know very well. I’m looking forward to making a positive contribution supporting him and his coaching team as they look to build on the excellent work they’ve done so far, in a way that honours the traditions of this great club.”
Swanses RFC Managing Director, Keith Colclough, said:
“This is a fantastic appointment for the club. Ben is an individual who will drive standards and help to push the club forward on and off the pitch. We are all delighted that he has agreed to take on this new role, looking to build on the work of Paul Whapham who served the club with distinction before stepping down earlier this season.
“He knows Swansea RFC inside out, having been part of the club since he was a youngster starting off in the game, and with his family connection going back decades before that. It is important to have people involved who understand what Swansea RFC is all about.
“As a club we have huge optimism about the future, starting with the SRC play-offs this weekend, and then looking beyond that to our return to St Helen’s next season and celebrating 150 years of the ground being our home. The announcement of Ben as Head of Rugby Operations is the first bit of good news for supporters, with more to come.”
